Wed, 12 February 2014

The members of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) are pleased to announce that Sir Peter Gershon is appointed Non-Executive Chairman, effective 1st February 2014.  Sir Peter, Chairman Tate & Lyle plc and National Grid plc, will oversee the management Board of the ACA and its progress in delivering the two Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, which on entering service will become the United Kingdom's national flagships.

Commenting on the appointment, Secretary of State for Defence, Rt. Hon. Philip Hammond MP, said: “The Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers will be the biggest ships in the history of the Royal Navy. Now that we have renegotiated the contract between the MoD and industry to ensure proper alignment of interests, it is important this vast project is managed efficiently and governed effectively to ensure the delivery of carrier strike from 2020.

“Sir Peter's appointment will help to increase the coherence and coordination between MoD and industry as the programme reaches key milestones ahead of entering service with the Royal Navy.”

About the Aircraft Carrier Alliance
