Founded in 1828 Bureau Veritas is the largest classification and certification society in the world with over 65,000 employees located in 1,300 offices in 140 countries and with over 400,000 customers in many different industries throughout the world.


In the maritime and offshore fields, its objectives are to improve and maintain standards of safety, security, quality and protection of the environment:

. Classification of ships and offshore units: 10,000 ships and offshore units of all types are classed on its register;

. Certification of ships, units and equipment on behalf of 150 governmental authorities;

. Technical assistance and consulting;

. Training services in the technical and regulatory field.


BV Marine & Offshore has a consistent network of 2,300 highly qualified marine surveyors, specialised in the implementation of safety, security and protection of environment rules and standards, operating in 180 survey stations located in 90 countries.


BV has created a set of modern user-friendly tools using information technologies, like the VeriSTAR family products, able to provide timely and cost-effective solutions for the maritime industry.


BV develops R&D programmes and technical studies with a high level of expertise in safety and quality in order to facilitate the decision-making process and to optimise costs.

Since October 24, 2007, Bureau Veritas has been listed on the Paris stock exchange.
