Certification programme from GVF and Intellian
Mon, 15 August 2016
The Global VSAT Forum (GVF) and Intellian have launched a new global online maritime training certification programme specifically for seafarers.
It allows crew operators to gain maximum service availability from Intellian’s marine VSAT terminals which offer global broadband coverage to vessels at sea.
This enables them to perform critical operational tasks after the installation technician has left and Intellian will use the course to support its partners around the world.
“This collaboration strengthens not only Intellian’s customers and partners, but also the maritime communications community as a whole,” said David Hartshorn, secretary general of GVF.
The new course, GVF 562N, is included at no charge to all GVF Knowledge Centre subscribers and site license holders.
Trainees will learn fundamental aspects of hot to monitor, operate and perform at-sea maintenance of the v60, v60G, v80G, V100 and V100GX marine stabilised VSAT terminals.
“To support Intellian’s quickly expanded market share in the maritime VSAT market, it makes sense to leverage the GVF training programme as the industry’s standard in training for VSAT operators and installers,” said Charlie Snooke, Intellian’s global director support services.
Topics covered include hardware components, principles of operation of the terminal, startup and shutdown procedures, using the front panel operator controls, satellite modem operation, operator-level troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
General operation and problem solving concepts covered in the course also apply to the v240K, v240C, and v240M antennas.
The course is developed by SatProf Inc and is designed for all radio operators, IT technicians, or other seafarers and crew members who are responsible for operating Intellian Ku/Ka VSAT terminals while underway.
