In addition to the activities detailed below we are investigating the possibility of developing a bespoke Marine / Maritime ‘Exporting is Great’ programme in the near future which will highlight UK marine and maritime capability to an international audience.

We continue to work with UK Export Finance in key markets and we are finding that UKEF’s portfolio of products can greatly assist UK companies to access overseas supply chains.

D.I.T is also interested in developing a regular – perhaps annual - Industry Briefing Course for overseas staff to visit the UK and learn how the UK marine offer is developing.

Visit the D.I.T events site Horizon at for updates on the full range of marine events and activities.

As you are aware, our targeted programme of cross-government support and activity over the next 5-years will focus on - Brazil, China and South Korea.

The opportunity: Structural and long term gaps in Brazil’s national supply chain mean that the shipyards and owner/operators will continue to import major systems such as power, propulsion, electronics and dynamic positioning – as well as vessel design itself.

Therefore, the pipeline at the Brazilian shipyards includes PSVs, OSVs and AHTS for the oil & gas sector; and barges, pushers and tugboats for the agribusiness sector.

19 – 21 Sept 2016 – D.I.T-Rio will support British companies at Marintec South America in Rio and will be available to discuss a range of new opportunities in this market and how DIT can support you.

19-20 Oct 2016 – D.I.T will work with our partners at IMPA to host a training session for Brazilian maritime purchasing managers. For more information see the attached brochure.

w/c Oct 3rd Nov 2016 – Our Brazil marine specialist will host a series of roundtable events across the country to talk about the developing Brazilian Marine opportunities, detail the government support available and answer your questions about doing business in Brazil. We are also looking at a range of supporting interactive webinars exploring key aspects of doing business in the Brazilian marine market.

The programme to date is as follows:

Tuesday 4th October - Yorkshire & Humber

Tuesday 4th October – North West

Wednesday 5th October – North East

Thursday 6th October - South East (Portsmouth).

Visit the Horizon site for updates.

The Opportunity: Although this is a very challenging time for the South Korean economy - especially in the ship building sector - with a 3rd of the world order book and a focus on high-value vessels there remain significant opportunities for systems and components relevant to UK capability in the medium to longer term.

We are still looking to recruit an industry secondi (under the Short Term Business Attachment scheme) to work with D.I.T / FCO colleagues in South Korea of a few months to help develop some of the opportunities.

Following their time in South Korea, the D.I.T STBA specialist will visit key UK regions to talk about the developing opportunities, procurement processes and the market engagement options.

In the meantime, colleagues in D.I.T Seoul are working to map the procurement requirements of a range of Korean decision makers.

19 – 21 Oct 2016: D.I.T and the Northern Offshore Federation (NOF) will support a marine focussed trade mission group to visit Offshore Korea where we will also have a stand area which UK companies can use as a base during the event.  D.I.T South Korea staff will be on hand to talk about the full range of opportunities in this market and the government assistance available. For more information visit Horizon.

w/c 28 Nov 2016 – D.I.T will work with key Korean trade body KOSHIPA to support an inward mission to the UK. As part of the mission programme, a UK-Korea Marine Partnership workshop will take place in London on Wednesday 30 November with the support of the South Korean trade ministry (MOTIE).

21 – 22 Sept 2016: DIT South East will host a ‘Doing Business in the US’ seminar at the Southampton Boat Show on board the DIT ‘Exporting is Great’ truck. If you are interested in participating get in touch with my colleague
