Mermaid Marine is appointed Lombardini distributor
Mon, 18 May 2015
Seawork 2015 will be used by Mermaid Marine to announce its appointment as UK distributor for Lombardini Marine engines and generators.
In addition, Mermaid Marine will also officially launch the Mermaid Kohler KDI range of engines to the UK market, a prototype of which was seen on the stand in 2014. The Lombardini four stroke diesel engines are fresh water cooled via a heat exchanger and feature high reliability, durability and low fuel consumption while retaining engine performance.
“The engines are built for robustness, sturdiness and minimum weight in a compact package. Noise emissions have been reduced due to the location of the injection system in the cylinder head, a ribbing system along all the engine structure and the absence of gears,” said Mermaid Marine sales executive Julian Osborne.
“In addition the engines use advanced technology to fully conform to the new EC, BSO and EPA regulations on pollution and noise.”
Mr Osborne added: “Particular attention has been paid to simplifying the installation and maintenance operations and specific processes have been applied to the metals to preserve them against the salt corrosion, placing the engines among the most technologically advanced on the market.”
Newly developed Lombardini patented pump-injector units incorporate separate fuel injection pumps and injectors, eliminating fuel pipes and achieving improved injection timing with consequent performance advantages. The injection system also means low exhaust emissions below EEC requirements are achieved.
Components subject to more frequent checking are located in the upper part of the engine meaning low servicing costs. The engines are available from 13hp to 87hp.
The generator range consists of five models from 4kVA (3.2kW) to 20kVA (16kW). Designed with easy maintenance in mind, the generator has controls and engine parts requiring routine maintenance on just one side.
A safety shutdown is incorporated to avoid serious damage to the engine in case of overload, high temperature of the water cooling and low oil pressure. The genset has been designed to work with lateral or longitudinal inclination of up to 25° and intermittently with 30° allowing it to continue working when the boat is heeled. Noise is reduced through a fibreglass and neoprene shield.
Attention has been made with regard to weight reduction with reinforcement ribs used to increase the mechanical strength of the drive housing without any reduction in reliability.
Mermaid Marine offers a range of heat exchanger and keel cooled marine diesel propulsion and auxiliary engines up to 825hp. The company is also UK distributor for the Citius series of heavy duty engines from AGCO Power, FPT and FNM’s ATM mechanical range and HPE electronic engine range as well as offering its own range of Mermaid J444 (JCB) engines.
