Power Take Off (PTO) Systems for the Wave Energy Sector
Mon, 30 March 2015
Wave Energy Scotland (WES) – funded by the Scottish Government - takes an innovative approach to supporting the commercialisation of the wave energy sector. Set up as part of Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE).
What makes Wave Energy Scotland unique is its long-term commitment to the sector: WES will take innovative technologies from concept to being ready for private sector investment. It is anticipated that this will take up to ten years using a technology development process that focuses on proving technology and engineering quality.
This first part of this programme is for secondary energy conversion technology – commonly known as power take-off (PTO) systems and WES has launched 4 new competitions with a total budget of up to £7M to fund development of new innovative energy conversion solutions that are applicable to the wave energy sector.
Wave energy is a new renewable energy resource with a significant market potential. Globally the International Energy Agency forecast that by 2050 projects totalling a capacity of up to 130GW could be installed should the technology become cost competitive with other forms of renewable energy.
WES intends holding an information webinar on 31st March 2015 for further details please visit http://www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk/search/show/search_view.aspx?ID=MAR203890
