Brazilian Navy Crew Prepare For Ship Handover
Tue, 26 June 2012
Portsmouth, United Kingdom: A crew of 80 Brazilian Navy sailors are in the UK being trained by engineers at BAE Systems to master the newest addition to their fleet.
Amazonas, the first of three Offshore Patrol Vessels purchased by the Brazilian Navy, will be officially handed over by BAE Systems this Friday (29 June).
The crew are learning advanced skills in areas such as seamanship, electronics and propulsion at the company's facility in Portsmouth before leaving for Plymouth in July to complete familiarisation and duty watch training. Amazonas will then sail to Brazil in August where she will perform maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian relief operations.
The £133 million contract for the three vessels and ancillary support services was signed in December 2011.
