Brazilian Navy's Araguari is SolaSafe

Thu, 28 February 2013

BNS P122 ARAGUARI is the last of a trio of Ocean Patrol Vessel’s that have been built by BAE systems and delivered to the Brazilian Navy.  Picked up as a series of “Ready Mades”, due to a cancelled order that was originally placed by the Trinidad and Tobago government, the patrol vessels will supply the country with enhanced maritime capability further strengthening its ability to provide security, safety and protection to the Brazilian Jurisdictional Waters.

With a 30mm cannon and two 25mm guns, as well as two rigid inflatable boats and a helicopter flight deck capable of landing a medium-sized helicopter, the ships are ideal for performing maritime security in Brazil’s territorial waters, including the protection of the country’s oil and gas reserves. The vessels accommodate a crew of 80, with additional accommodation for 40 embarked troops or passengers and ample deck space for container storage.

Having previously supplied the first 2 vessels with SOLASAFE roller sunscreens for the wheelhouse windows, to protect navigation bridge personnel against solar glare and heat, this time BAE systems were taking advantage of Solar Solve Marine’s ‘ONE-OFF-VISIT’ supply and install service.  Production and Installation Technician Krys Short drove the 350 miles to Portsmouth to measure up for the 15 SOLASAFE screens and then contacted the factory with all of the details.  Whilst the screens were being manufactured and delivered to the vessel Krys was busily installing all of the brackets and other necessary fittings ready for their arrival.  By 5pm of his second day on the ship, the job was finished and ready for hand-over, which was carried out by Krys early the next day before returning to the factory.

Carl Johnson, Solar Solve’s Operations Director who was closely involved with the planning and execution of the project commented, “I am always praising my whole team at Solar Solve, and rightly so, for their total commitment and dedication to delighting our customers.  On this occasion I also want to thank our colleagues at BAE systems for their excellent cooperation, without which we would have struggled to meet their demands.”
“I am confident that the screens will give many years of service providing an improved environment to help the crew operate more safely and effectively.”
