Wed, 27 April 2016

Solar Solve Marine, the British manufacturer of SOLASOLV® anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens for navigation windows has won a contract to supply 17 SOLASOLV® screens to the CSL Argosy, a 74,000 DWT self-discharging bulk carrier.

Solar Solve have specialised in providing sun and glare protection to the marine and offshore industry for almost 30 years.  SOLASOLV® anti-glare screens are installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide. Regarded as essential safety equipment, the screens effectively reject up to 87% of heat and up to 93% of glare from the sun, significantly reducing eye-strain and fatigue, and improving outward visibility.  SOLASOLV® sunscreens are the only screens in the world to be Type Approved by ABS, DNV-GL and Lloyds’.

CSL Argosy is owned by the CSL Group Inc., a leading provider of marine dry bulk cargo handling and delivery services and the world’s largest owner and operator of self-unloading vessels.  Headquartered in Montreal, they are a Canadian-based, privately-owned shipping company.

CSL Argosy is a 244 metre panamax bulk carrier that was originally built in 1981 but was rebuilt with a new forebody in 2006. The vessel can carry 17,000 of net tonnage and has a discharge rate of up to 6,000 tonnes per hour depending on the cargo.

Paul Hopkins, from Solar Solve Marine commented, “Here we have another significant order for a vessel that despite being 35 years old is still continuing to install the latest modern equipment to ensure the safety of its crew and cargo.  The SOLASOLV® screens will help to significantly reduce glare, heat and reflection on the navigation bridge whilst the ship is at sea.”
