Lewek Constellation Orders Solasolv® Sunscreens

Mon, 16 March 2015

In February UK based Solar Solve Marine won a contract to supply 15 SOLASOLV® anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens to the Lewek Constellation, a one-of-a-kind pipe and cable laying vessel.  The screens were sent to Rotterdam where they were installed by Solar Solve’s Dutch Distributor whilst the vessel completed additional outfitting. Solar Solve supplied their double-pulley constant tension operating system which is the most commonly requested. It holds the screen under tension when in use to prevent it moving or flapping about when the vessel is at sea.

Solar Solve have specialised in providing sun and glare protection to the marine and offshore industry for almost 30 years and the company is celebrating its 40th anniversary in business this year (1975 – 2015).  The SOLASOLV® brand of anti-glare screen is installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide. Regarded as essential safety equipment, the screens effectively reject up to 87% of heat and up to 93% of glare from the sun, significantly reducing eye-strain and fatigue, and improving outward visibility.  SOLASAFE® screens are guaranteed for 7 years and the only screens in the world to be Type Approved by DNV-GL, Lloyds’ and ABS.

Built at Sofel’s yard in Vung Tau in Vietnam, Lewek Constellation is 178m long, 46m wide and has on board accommodation for 239 persons in single cabins. Equipped with a Huisman mast crane, the vessel has four 1,200 tonne removable rigid pipe reels and two fixed 1,250 tonne carousels for flexible pipe. The vessel also has two 600 tonne traction winches and storage capacity for 4,000 metres of steel wire rope. No other vessel in the world has these features and the straightening capability.

Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve’s Sales & Marketing Executive commented, “This is yet another excellent order for Solar Solve to win and it is for a vessel operating in the subsea market. She is a state-of-the-art vessel which has been upgraded to make her the best in her class. Once she turns fully operational, she is heading to the Gulf of Mexico and a hot climate where the SOLASOLV® sunscreens will provide major benefit to the crew.”
