South Tyneside College Celebrates Record-Breaking A-level Exam Results
Thu, 16 August 2012
South Tyneside College is celebrating record-breaking A-level exam results after students achieved a stunning 99.1 per cent pass rate.
Of 221 exams sat by 120 students aged 16-18, 219 achieved grade A-E.
And of those, 139 were graded A*-C.
Incredibly, it betters last year’s 98 per cent pass mark and is well above the national average.
Lindsey Whiterod, Principal and Chief Executive at South Tyneside College, said the results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of students and staff.
She said: “This has been another excellent year for A-Levels and is great reward for the students who have worked so hard to achieve these results.
“The overall pass rate is excellent, which is once again a reflection of the high standards staff set at the College and the fantastic teaching and learning that takes place here year after year.
“I would like to thank all tutors who have helped our students achieve their full potential - and my warmest congratulations to those students who are celebrating success today.
“Results like this provide further evidence as we continue to be one of the best performing colleges in the region.”
South Tyneside College, based in St Georges Avenue, South Shields, is the only college in the North East whose standards are judged to be rising by Ofsted. The effectiveness of its teaching and learning was praised in July.
A separate Ofsted report also commended improvements made to its halls of residence as part of an overall £3.2m modernisation programme which has seen classrooms, workshops, learning zones, student relaxation areas and toilets refurbished.
