SSA Annual House of Commons Lunch 2014 – Sponsored by Bureau Veritas 30th October 2014

A networking lunch was organised by the SSA on the 30the October 2014 at the House of Commons. The event was attended by leading maritime organisations and leading British maritime companies. 

The Rt Hon John Hayes MP, Minister of State for Transport gave an enlightening key note speech.  The Minister stated that the UK as a Nation remains a maritime power house and undoubtedly is still a Stella contributor to the UK Economy.  The marine and maritime industries contribute over 90 billion pounds to the UK economy, and employs in the region of 367,000 people. 

Gregory Darling, Co Chairman of the Marine Industries Leadership- Council and chairman of the Guard line Group, addressed the luncheon and stressed the importance of all maritime organisations within the UK to speak with one voice to maximise business opportunities.

Mr Alan Dickinson, President of the SSA, give a brief on the expanding membership of the association and gave some examples of the advantages of membership, along with detail of the associations continued involvement with EU innovative projects.
