SSA Attends INCASS Workshop Event
Mon, 10 November 2014
SSA were invited to attend the INCASS workshop as part of the Industry Advisory Board for the project. The EU funded project INCASS – Inspection Capabilities for Enhanced Ship Safety, held its 1st Annual Workshop in London on 6th November hosted by Lloyds Register.
The INCASS project brings together a range of experienced and dedicated partners from 7 EU countries in order to tackle the issue of ship inspection, identification of high-risk ships and providing access to information related to ship surveys. The main deliverables of the INCASS project are following:
· Risk-based framework for ship structures and machinery Inspection
· Condition Based maintenance assessment and scheduling
· Central automated database for ship structures and machinery
· Structural and machinery Decision Support Platform
· Practical Guidelines freely available to the maritime Community for inspection and risk management
Nowadays, with the ever-increasing size of buildings of new ships, the monitoring and inspection of ships from regulatory bodies as well as Classification Societies has become more and more difficult, when it comes to acquiring the optimum inspection results and eliminating the hazards posed by high-risk and sub-standard ships.
The objective of INCASS project is to ease the life of inspection bodies and ship owners/operators and to present a comprehensive solution for an effective, faster and flexible ship inspection regime, based on innovative use of robotic platforms, ship machinery monitoring with real time information using ‘intelligent’ sensors, incorporating Structural and Machinery Risk Analysis, Reliability and Criticality assessment and Decision Support Systems.
