The objective of COPATCH is to demonstrate that composite patch repairs can be environmentally stable and therefore, that they can be used as innovative permanent repair measures in the highly competitive marine sector.  The project aims to show that by applying the patch a reduce in maintenance costs and an extension of design life can be achieve for many large steel structures.
SSA will be working with some of the leading companies in composite patch work along with the European universities of Athens, Portugal and Surrey, in total the project consists of 15 partners with a total EU funding of €3.5 million.
SSA’s role within the project is to get involved with producing a set of guidelines and procedures/standards for applying composite patches in a marine environment, and with help from SSA’s members will be assisting in the full scale testing of composite patches.
Additional information about the project can be found by visiting either the SSA website or the projects website
