The objective of ECO-REFITEC is to improve the competitiveness of European shipyards and SME’s involved in shipbuilding, shiprepair and recycling. The project will assist shipyards and ship operators to perform cost effective refitting of existing fleet through technological developments and new tools helping to benchmark their performance and improve the retrofit processes and products and assessing the environmental and life cycle cost impact.
SSA will be working with companies mainly from Eastern Europe which will provide additional knowledge into the current state of the art of shipyards in these countries, in total the project consists of 14 partners with total EU funding of €2.6 million.
SSA’s role is to look at environmental legislation applicable to shipping and the impact/opportunity that these present to ship owners, operators and equipment/installers. In the later stages of the project the technical, economic and environmental viability of various technologies will be assessed over the lifetime of the retrofit.
