The objective of TARGETS is a global analysis of the most important causes of energy consumption on board of cargo ships in a comprehensive and holistic approach to identify resistance and propulsion aspects as primary causes of energy consumption.  The project will develop an energy consumption simulation system to be applied to new vessel design and operation in order to assess, reduce and optimise energy consumption.

SSA will be working with leading European fluid dynamics and energy specialists and major EU shipping operators covering a broad range of transport operations, A.P. Moller – Maersk, in total the project has 11 partners and a total EU funding of €2.7 million.

SSA’s main role in the project being to assist in the development of guidelines for energy efficient ship design and operation using the technologies developed in the TARGETS project and to compile the contributions to IMO on the energy efficiency design and operation index.
Additional information about the project can be found by visiting either the SSA website or the projects website
