Babcock Wins Compressors Contract for Ships and Submarines

Tue, 19 June 2012

Babcock has been awarded a four year multi-million pound support contract by the MOD Maritime Equipment Systems team to supply and support compressors and associated equipment installed on the UK Royal Navy’s ships and submarines.

Under the enabling contract Babcock will provide spares and consumables (covering a range of some 4,000 items) and undertake repairs and refurbishment to compressors and their sub-assemblies and components to meet availability targets.  Additionally, Babcock will provide rapid reactive engineering support and post-design services, such as defect investigation and modifications.  The equipment and services will be supplied to all classes of current naval surface ships and submarines, including the new Type 45 Destroyer and Astute Class submarine.

All work by Babcock under this contract will be carried out to strict quality and performance standards, with spares and repaired items being delivered within eight weeks or 30 weeks depending on the type of equipment.  The company will be applying its extensive experience and expertise in managing such contracts to meet the service levels demanded, and ensure the required service levels are maintained.

Babcock Equipment Solutions Managing Director John Stratton said,

“We are delighted to have secured this contract, against strong competition, and be able to demonstrate further Babcock’s ability to deliver value for money by applying our asset management expertise for various categories of maritime equipment.  We recognise the importance of timely provision of this equipment and support service and plan to work with the MOD to improve forecast demand and maximise operational capability and value for money.”

This the latest in a number of naval equipment and asset management contracts delivered by Babcock, which also include firefighting and damage control equipment, electrical and electronic components, electric motors, pumps and domestic equipment.
