Eco-REFITEC Project Workshop
Mon, 12 May 2014
Eco-REFITEC is a research project part funded by the European Commission; that intends to support repair shipyards and ship operators to perform refitting of existing fleet through technological development and new tools, helping shippers benchmark their performance, improving the retrofit processes and products, and assessing environmental and life cycle cost impact.
The workshop was attended by approx. 30 delegates from across Europe representing the shipping sector. The partners of the Eco-REFITEC consortium presented and discussed the final results of the Eco-REFITEC research project, holding question and answer session throughout the workshop.
SSA has contributed in almost all the work packages:
Looked at environmental legislation applicable to shipping and the impact/opportunity that these present to ship owners, operators and equipment/installers.
Dissemination and link between the industry and the project.
To assess technical, economic and environmental viability of various technologies over the lifetime of the retrofit.
New eco-friendly retrofit techniques, modules and materials identified and listed into an online database. A value engineering method for each along with a selection methodology to verify the value engineering has been designed.
SSA is WP4 leader, managing the next steps of the project where all the new retrofit techniques have to be implemented in different case studies.
