Maersk Installs Solasolv® Sunscreens

Thu, 06 December 2012

Solar Solve Marine, the South Shields based manufacturer of SOLASOLV® anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens for navigation bridge and control room windows, recently received a number of orders from Maersk.  At the end of September an order for 28 SOLASAFE® roller screens was received for the Maersk Fetcher, a supply ship. Then at the beginning of November an order for a SOLASAFE® roller screen was received for the Maersk Missouri, a container ship. At the end of November a third order for 6 SOLASAFE® sunscreens was received for the Maersk Endurer, a jack-up drill rig.

SOLASOLV® roller screens are installed at the windows of ships, rigs and cranes of all types and sizes around the world. They reject up to 87% of the sun’s heat and up to 93% of the sun’s glare, so eye-strain is significantly reduced and computer displays are easier to read. A clear outward view is also maintained for safer operations. With a lower room temperature the crew have a more comfortable working environment and are less prone to fatigue which can lead to human error. Suitable for newbuilds and retrofits, they are Type Approved by Lloyds, ABS and DNV.

Maersk Fetcher was constructed by Ulstein Werft in Norway in 1985. The Maersk Missouri was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea in 1998 and the Maersk Endurer was constructed by Nippon Kokan in Japan in 1984.

Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve’s Sales and Marketing Executive commented, “We are delighted that a large and diverse owner such a Maersk continues to order SOLASOLV® sunscreens their ships and rigs. SOLASOLV® are proven to be of great benefit to crews when they are working in hot and sunny weather conditions which is why they are so popular.”
