Solar Solve Marine’s Sweet Partnership with Candies USA

Thu, 23 August 2012

South Shields based Solar Solve Marine recently dispatched another consignment of their SOLASAFE anti glare roller screens to Candies Shipbuilding shipyard in Houma, Louisiana, USA to be installed onto CANDIES 152, the latest vessel under construction at the yard.

The name of the Dive Support Vessel is not yet known but it is 89mts long, 18mts wide, 7.4mts deep and of 3,280 tons dwt, 4,200 tons gross.  Powered and manoeuvred by 4 Caterpillar 3512B Diesel Electric engines of 4,480 total Horse Power (3,296 Kilowatts), CANDIES 152 will join the extensive fleet of offshore vessels that are owned and operated by their associated company Otto Candies, based at Des Allemands, Louisiana.

The 22 retractable SOLASOLV screens will be installed at windows in the wheelhouse and when in use they will reject glare, heat and uv light from the sun, creating an enhanced environment for the people working on the navigation bridge, whether that is during normal navigation at sea or whilst the ship’s personnel are carrying out the very precise and highly dangerous operations associated with the vessel’s dive-support function and responsibility.

John Lightfoot MBE, Solar Solve’s chairman commented, “I am very proud of Solar Solve Marine’s partnership with Candies Shipbuilding, which began in 2006 when we supplied 18 screens for ‘Chloe Candies’, an Offshore Supply Vessel and the first ship they built at their newly acquired shipyard.  They have been constructing one ship a year since then for Otto Candies and our SOLASAFE products have been installed on all of them.”
