Fastnet Shipping Install SOLASOLV® Sunscreens

Fri, 09 March 2012

Solar Solve Marine, the South Shields based manufacturer of SOLASOLV® anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens for navigation bridge windows, has just completed an installation on two Fastnet Shipping vessels.
The Fastnet Swift and Fastnet Tern are two 14m Windfarm Support and Service vessels with a top speed of 28 knots. They were built to transfer crew, equipment and supplies between onshore facilities and offshore wind turbines. Each vessel has now been fitted with 6 SOLASAFE® cassette sunscreens at the navigation bridge windows and 10 pieces of window film for the passenger area windows and skylight windows.
The Northern Hemisphere has just experienced the winter season and whilst one of the benefits of SOLASOLV® roller screens is to reduce heat, the main reason for ordering during this time is to help to reduce excessive glare from the low lying sun. In this situation the sun tends to be in the line of sight and reflects off the water to create an uncomfortable and hazardous navigating experience. By rejecting up to 92% of glare, eye-strain is significantly reduced and the bridge equipment displays are easier to read so human errors are less likely to occur. A clear outward view is also maintained to ensure a safer journey.
Both vessels were constructed by Canvey Island based builders, Blyth Workcats and they will be soon joined by two sister vessels which are currently in the final stages of construction by the same builder. They are due to be delivered in March 2012.
Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve Marine’s Sales and Marketing Executive commented, “Fastnet Shipping took the decision to invest in a measuring and installation service for SOLASOLV® sunscreens and window film. The initial survey and measure took place at the end of January and our experienced team of fitters returned to Essex Marina and installed the sunscreens and window film three weeks later. Despite the complex shape of the windows and limited access due to space restrictions each vessel was completely fitted out in just over 6 hours. Fastnet Shipping were delighted with the service and plan on installing SOLASOLV® sunscreens and window film on their next two vessels as well.”
