Our vision is to support and promote the UK Marine Industry


SSA is the voice of the UK Marine Industry representing shipyards, equipment manufacturers, service providers, maritime universities, and the wider marine supply chain. SSA members account for 99% of all ship production in the UK.

Shipbuilding, both civil and military, is a strategic sector for the UK and we have extensive know-how in designing, building and maintaining ships across the country.

SSA deals direct with UK Government Departments, National and Regional agencies and is the ‘Gateway to Europe’ for the UK Maritime Industry into Europe. The association addresses the Business and Innovation needs of the Maritime Industry and provides a platform for, in every way, advancing the interests of the sector. UK organisations involved in marine related activities a safe, level playing and competitive platform to operate.

Whether you are involved in merchant or warship building, maintenance and repair of ships, or in any associated business including the Manufacturing of Marine Equipments, Defence Contracts, Renewable or Offshore Wind Energy, SSA is the association for you.

Sonar Research & Development Ltd
Established in 1981, SRD is an independent company providing specialised and innovative sonar services and products to a wide spectrum of customers whose common requirement is to visualise, monitor and measure particular aspects of the sub-sea environment. SRD has amassed a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of acoustics and their use in a wide range of sub-sea applications including; bathymetric survey, seabed clearance, specialised dredging support, pipelay, pipeline inspection, wreck survey, positioning/tracking, and other customised applications where real time on-line project management and process control is required. The compact SVS3 hardware means that transducers can be deployed by various methods from small launches to semi-submersible drilling rigs. Using the in-house developed Subsea Visualisation System (SVS), SRD has been providing specialist services to the offshore and allied industries since 1993. Today, using SRD’s latest high resolution digital technology Sonar, SVS3 is a fully integrated data acquisition, processing and visualisation package. With real-time process control the system offers substantial user benefits including lower project costs, on-line resolution of issues, 3D visualisation and volumetric analysis. With SRD’s flexible approach to customer requirements, the SVS3 system can be customised for the most demanding project requirements.
